[Guangzhou, September 7, 2015] Huawei Senior Vice President Bai Limin met Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to discuss how to boost ICT development and nurture local talent in Ethiopia.

Prime Minister Desalegn thanked Huawei and acknowledged its efforts to drive communications development in Ethiopia, especially the successful delivery of the Telecom Expansion Project. He also expected Ethiopia to widely cooperate with Huawei and leverage Huawei's global experience to nurture local ICT professionals and accelerate the nation's ICT development through a series of diverse initiatives.

Emphasizing that Ethiopia is one of Huawei's key markets, Mr. Bai said that Huawei is committed to providing Ethiopia with faster communications technologies. By now, Huawei has not only rolled out an LTE network in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, but also trained more than 3,000 local ICT engineers. In the future, Huawei will align its efforts with Ethiopia's second five-year Growth and Transformation Plan to continuously provide advanced communications technologies and train ICT professionals. Through these initiatives, Huawei aims to contribute further to Ethiopia's socioeconomic progress.

Huawei began operating in Ethiopia in 1999. Currently, it has more than 200 permanent staff based in the country, more than 60% of whom are local hires. Being an active contributor to local ICT development, Huawei has invested heavily in building a pool of local ICT professionals in Ethiopia, including over 1,000 technical experts for an advanced infrastructure network project with Ethio Telecom. In the future, Huawei will continue its efforts to train local ICT professionals and create more jobs in Ethiopia.
